SeaMonkey® Log:
| 19/9/95: | Bought packet. Used Bottled Water and followed step 1. The water stayed over the night and day like it said on the packet. |
| 20/9/95: | It is 6:00 PM and around 24 hours have passed since step 1. I open the second packed with an army-knife. This stuff stinks! I poor all the contents into the water. After some seconds the first 'SeaMonkeys' hatch from their eggs. I never got to see one hatching myself, since they are to small. I have a hard time recognizing the 'Monkeys' from the dirt in the water. First spilling! Nothing happened. A friend thought that they where one of those snowing glasses and wanted to shake it... no death presumed, but who knows by their size. |
| 21/9/95: | There seem to be around 20 or more of these things in the water. Today its easier to see them. They are very active! Most of them swim around the bottom, where the green stuff in which they where packed in, has settled. I believe they like to live in their own birth-material. Like the book says, they really react to light and follow my desk lamp. They seem not to have any gravity, since they move freely into all directions (kind of crazy!). I felt pity for them and fed them today, even if I was not supposed to, but they seemed to like it, since they got more active after the feeding. Tonight they seem bigger. Well, maybe I was the one to learn how to spot them instead of them growing. |
| 22/9/95: | They have grown at least double of size by now. Impressive! Most of them swim at the top of the tank, totally the opposite of what they did yesterday. They might just be hungry and eating some of the food that was left over from yesterday, or they might not have enough oxygen in the water. I have seen fish doing that! |
| 23/9/95: | I am the proud father (owner?) of at least 25 SeaMonkeys that happily live together in harmony. Today I can even see that tail that the ones on the picture have. Their movement is not very coordinated and the basics of survival have not been learned, since they still swim happily against the wall of the aquarium (glass?) again and again. I believe I am overfeeding them, since a lot of dirt is accumulating on the ground. |
| 24/9/95: | Ohhh... I think I should not have left the windows open! This morning only two of my SeaMonkey colony are still alive... These are the days where you remember your mother saying to you: "Each time you get a new pet, we end up flushing the corps down the toilet because you where not careful!". One thing I learned, is that they obviously don't like chilly weather! I hope these two survive the next night... Just in case I will not give them names, that way I won't get attached to them too much. |
| 25/9/95: | Well, now I am down to one. It seams they don't like boiling water either! Just kidding... This does not look good. I just hope that it is a female, since the booklet said something about them being able to reproduce themselves without a male in hard situations. Well, men, pray that does not apply to us humans, we would be screwed. |
| 26/9/95: | Saddest day in history of SeaMonkey farming... the last inhabitant of my great waters has given his/her soul to god (SeaMonkey god?). I decided to leave the aquarium out in the sun so it can dry out faster. I'll then try to make it work again, at least that is what the guys who sell this wrote in their bloody booklet. |
| 20/3/96: | If you believe it or not, SeaMonkeys are back in my room. No, they did not resurrect! Dave, the SeaMonkey hero gave me today a whole new kit of SeaMonkeys. OK, I again went through the same steps as described in the 'Official SeaMonkey Handbook' of cleaning the water with the content of packet #1. This times some kind of blue colored something was swimming in the water. Well I hope it isn't anything toxic! I'll have to wait till tomorrow to put in the eggs. |
| 21/3/96: | Today I put in package #2, even before the suggested 24 hours where over. The water I used was passed through a filter Sean has in his room. I can again see several SeaMonkeys swimming around in the green stuff on the bottom of the glass. Everybody in the house is exited about the SeaMonkeys. Hopefully they will make it through the night! |
| 23/3/96: | We have thousands of SeaMonkeys in the glass. In contrary to what the manual says, these SeaMonkeys... I don't know what I was about to write, so I guess I'll have to leave it this way. |
| 13/4/96: | Long before today every single SeaMonkey ended it's purpose on this earth (well water in this case). I really do not know what is happening. I tried to put them away from my monitor, because they might have been having too much heat from it but it did not help. Another sad time in the life of the SeaMonkeys. I will have to mail in the life insurance they have to see if I get new ones. Yes, I know this looks like a bad idea, but someday it has to work out. |
| 24/9/96: | OK, here we go again. I finally got my new SeaMonkeys from Transcience Corp. in the mail. I had to pay $0.32 to mail the request and $0.50 for handling and then again $0.32 for them to send me the SeaMonkeys. I believe this hobby is getting way too expensive... maybe I should switch over to Golf? Well, I then put the first packet in the water and will wait until tomorrow to see what happens. |
| 25/9/96: | When I came home I was anxious to put in the second package, so that was what I did. Nothing special happened (no, I did not see a light!). There is a good amount of them swimming around on the ground just after an hour. |
| 11/10/96: | I think I am getting better at this SeaMonkey thing! My Monkeys, around 10 of them, are growing fast and have already reached a greater length than any of their predecessors. Now I am worrying that they will starve since I am out of food. |
